“A deaf whale or dolphin will almost certainly rapidly end up dead.”-WDCS
The primary sense of all cetaceans is their hearing. They use this to find their prey, communicate with each other, and navigate. Noise pollution from shipping, military activity, and marine industries, such as oil and gas companies, shipping, boating, and pile driving, all release powerfully loud noices into the oceans that disrupts the normal behavior of cetaceans such as whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The loud noises drives them away from areas that are vital to their survival, such as feeding grounds. In some cases, the noise pollution kills them. Noise pollution is known to disrupt calving, feeding, communication, and breeding.
